Production of the Fiat 500e was discontinued

Fiat has officially stopped production of its popular electric city car Fiat 500e.This decision comes at a time when production is discontinued due to sluggish demand. The Fiat 500e played a key role in Fiat's transition to the electric vehicle market.

Fiat's parent company Stellantis, has stopped Production of the Fiat 500e was discontinued , This was a reaction to weak market demand for the electric Fiat 500e.



Stellantis halted production of small electric vehicles in 12 months because of sluggish demand. According to Reuters, production is not expected to resume until 11 May.



The initial production outage was supposed to last only 4 weeks, but the resumption date was set for October 11th.

Stellantis,the parent company of Fiat,slowed down production operations at the Mirafiori plant in Turin,Italy,in February,arguing that this was a response to weak market demand for the electric Fiat500e.The slowdown should lead to the plant working in a single reduced eight-hour shift. Previously, the plant ran in two-shift operation.



Reuters reported that despite the production halt, Stellanti reiterated its plan to invest 100 million euros ($111 million) in assembling an improved battery pack and producing a new 500 Hybrid model in early 2026.



In September, Italian officials told the European Union that they were reviewing the plan to stop selling new cars with an internal combustion engine by 2035.

"The ban must be changed," said Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. The government official called the ban "absurd" and that it was dictated by an "ideological vision."


The 2024 Fiat 500e costs $34,095 and has an EPA range of 149 miles. When we drove it in April, Green Car Reports said it "charms city drivers."
