Stellantis, one of the world's largest automakers, is causing ripples in the industry by launching a new crossover with its own pricing strategy:The new Stellantis crossover has the same price, EV or ICE, both costs are the same. This breakthrough step marks a major shift in the automotive market and will help drive the growth of electric mobility while removing costs that are one of the biggest obstacles to the introduction of electric vehicles.


Bridging the price gap between electric and gasoline vehicles


Traditionally, electric cars were more expensive than gasoline-powered ones. The high cost of batteries and the advanced technologies used in electric vehicles often drive prices, making them less accessible to the average consumer. But Stellantis wants to change this perception with a new crossover model.


Stellantis removes financial hurdles that buyers often hesitate when thinking about electric vehicles by offering the same price for EVs and ICE versions. The strategy not only encourages consumers to choose greener choices, but also positions Stellantis as a pioneer in the transition to greener and more sustainable modes of transport.

The latest mid-range crossover in Stellantis' European lineup is available in five or seven-seater configurations with either mild hybrid ICE or BEV powertrain configurations, but that's not interesting. What's interesting is that the price you pay remains the same regardless of whether you use gas or electricity. (!)


In the context of electric vehicles, price parity essentially means that buying an electric version of a car costs the same as buying a version with an internal combustion engine. Whether it makes sense to prioritise parity (and a lot of people argue it's not), electric cars are the equivalent gas.

Paving the Way for Electrification


The decision by Stellantis to adjust the price of EVs and ICE underscores its commitment to electrification. As governments around the world adopt stricter emissions regulations and facilitate the transition to electric vehicles, automakers like Stellantis are under pressure to innovate and expand electric vehicles. This pricing strategy can set new industry standards and encourage more automakers to close the price difference between electric and gasoline vehicles.


By 2030, Stellantis hopes to allocate 100% of its European sales and 50% of its U.S. sales to electric vehicles. Offering electric vehicles at the same price as internal combustion engine vehicles is part of a broader strategy to achieve these goals. The company has invested heavily in battery technology and is expanding its range of electric vehicles for several brands, including Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler.

The new Frontera is optionally available as a hybrid with 48 volt technology or fully electric. The Frontera Hybrid features a 100-horsepower, 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developed specifically for hybrids. The combination of a 21kW (28hp) electric motor and an electric 6-speed dual clutch transmission significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to traditional power models. In addition, the Frontera hybrid will also be available with a 136-horsepower 1.2 turbo engine.


You can order an all-electric Frontera Electric with an electric motor of 113 horsepower, based on the new native platform "Smart Car", which further developed the current e-CMP platform. With standard 100kW charging power, it offers a range of over 186 miles (about 300km) (WLTP for the time being), while the "long distance" version covers up to about 248 miles (about 400km) (WLTP for the time being) without stopping charging.
